Do you have a favorite neighborhood trail that needs a little cleaning up? Could your choice backcountry track use a little TLC? The American Hiking Society and Nature Valley are teaming up once again to launch their 2009 National Trails Fund. In the program’s 10 years of existence, they’ve donated $340,000 to 89 different trails, but 2009 is poised to be an especially big year: Nature Valley donated $50,000 through their Save the Trails foundation, and 10 applicants will each receive $5,000 for their trail.
Applications are due Aug. 15 and can be filled out here. On sept. 30, the American Hiking Society will post the top 20 submissions for public voting during all of October. At the end of the month, the top 10 trails will be revealed and receive the cash for repairs once voting has closed.
If you’ve ever lamented the condition of the trails in your neck of the woods, here’s your chance to do something about it.
