Pet dog saves Canadian boy from mountain lion attack. An 11-year-old boy was gathering wood in his backyard near Boston Bar, B.C., when a mountain lion pounced. His pet golden retriever Angel dove in front and fought off the cougar until wildlife agents could arrive. They found the cougar under the porch gnawing on the dog’s neck, and they shot and killed the mountain lion. Angel suffered puncture wounds on the head, neck, and legs, but is expected to survive the attack.
Nevada couple stranded in a snowstorm after following GPS down remote road. A couple from Reno, Nev., plotted a route home from Portland, Ore., into their car’s GPS and ended up following turn-by-turn directions down a remote road in the Winema-Fremont National Forest. After getting caught by a snowstorm, they spent three days stranded with no food, water, or warm clothing. Rescuers found their vehicle and pulled it out of the snow, but it was too late.
Quebec church turned into rock climbing gym. A Roman Catholic Church in Gatineau, Quebec, will be converted into a rock climbing gym by a local developer. Church officials remain optimistic, though. “Jesus liked to have fun, when he walked into the temple and started teaching the high priests, so he was having fun. So I’m pretty sure the people that are going to come into this church for recreational activities, I’m sure the Lord will be watching from above and say, ‘Yeah, I like this,'” said Archbishop Roger Ébacher.
