A Canadian hiker died after falling into a rain-swollen stream while hiking in the High Peaks Region of the Adirondack Mountains in New York.

Julie Belanger, 34, was hiking near Mt. Marcy on Saturday evening with a friend when she slipped off a log and fell into Feldspar Brook, The National Postreports.

Recent rainfall had increased the size of the stream and Belanger was swept away before her friend could rescue her.

Officials located the body Tuesday. An autopsy conducted at the Adirondack Medical Center determined the cause of death as drowning.
