In an effort to raise awareness of water issues facing the world, reduce waste, and upgrade the drinking water for concertgoers, Stanley has partnered with the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, which started yesterday, to implement the “Less-Bottled Water Program.”

This program’s goal: to reduce the number of disposable water bottles purchased at the Bonnaroo this year, and to give concertgoers the opportunity to reduce their impact on the environment. To do this, Stanley is sponsoring free filtered water at stations throughout the festival grounds in addition to the well water stations already in place. To defray the costs, concertgoers are encouraged to purchase a Bonnaroo-branded limited-edition Stanley stainless steel water bottle at the show, part of the proceeds of which will go to Global Water Challenge to help meet the urgent need of providing safe drinking water globally.

Here are the frightening stats on bottled water, and why you should never drink it again. These are in addition to the fact that sometimes bottled water is less clean and pure than what comes out of the tap!

Disposable plastic water bottles:

• End up as garbage 90% of the time.

• Use 2,000 times more energy than water to produce and transport.

• Water in them is 1,000 times more expensive than tap water.

• Take 1,000 years to biodegrade.

• Require enough fuel to power more than 3,000,000 vehicles a year.

Last year at Bonnaroo, more than 600,000 disposable bottles were recycled. This year, Stanley and Bonnaroo expect to eliminate 1.5 million bottles while educating concertgoers about their role in protecting the environment.

Our friend at Stanley, PR girl JoAnne Anderson, said, “It’s unheard of for a festival to discourage water bottle sales since historically they make so much $$ from sales of disposables, but with our help, Bonnaroo is taking a stance to do their part.”
