So the deep-sea blobfish has just won the award from the Ugly Animal Preservation Society as the least aesthetically pleasing animal in the entire universe. I wouldn’t say it’s undeserving; it looks kind of like Ziggy…melting. But I can’t get over the fact that it looks so damn sad about the results. Here’s the announcement of the winners:
Cheer up, Blobby Kennedy: Your victory means an awareness win for other fugly creatures in need of preservation. From The Guardian:
Simon Watt, the society’s president, said: “We’ve needed an ugly face for endangered animals for a long time and I’ve been amazed by the public’s reaction. For too long the cute and fluffy animals have taken the limelight, but now the blobfish will be a voice for the mingers who always get forgotten.”
Take that, Panda! Step off, Amur leopard! Blobfish and company are about to take over the attention in this endangered-species race like nerds in Revenge of the Nerds.
