The Altra Lone Peak has long been a favorite of thru-hikers and the 4.5 is the latest iteration. “AT hikers need enough support and cushion to deal with the rocky, rooty, rough terrain of the AT. I opt for the nimble Altra Lone Peaks 4.5, which make movement along an obstacle-laden trail like the AT feel more like dancing than tromping,” says thru-hiker Liz “Snorkel” Thomas, who picked them for her Appalachian Trail packing list. The 4.5 is the latest iteration of the light, cushy shoe with 25 millimeters of stack height and its integrated Stoneguard rock plate, protecting wearers from rocks underfoot. Now just $69.83, that’s 42 percent off their $120.00 list price in Men’s (7.5-15) and Women’s (5.5-11) at REI.
