Big Agnes Made Almost Everything But Backpacks. That’s About to Change.

The company is set to release six all-new pack models in spring 2022.

For two decades, Big Agnes has been one of the most well-known producers of high-quality tents, sleeping bags, pads, and accessories in the outdoors. We’ve highlighted plenty of their designs in our publication, from the classic Copper Spur tent to the new Sidewinder sleeping bag. One major category the brand has never touched, however, is packs. Next year, that’s going to change: Starting in spring 2022, Big Agnes will release its first-ever backpack line. The six new packs will range from 20 liters to 63 liters, covering everything from dayhikes to long-haul trips.

“For years, people have encouraged us to make packs with the same attention to detail, weight savings and comfort that we’re known for—but we never want to get into a category unless we think we have solid reasons,” said Bill Gamber, Big Agnes’s founder. “We’ve been working on the project for years, but with increased demand for great outdoor gear, now we think our timing makes sense.”

Big Agnes is known for making lightweight yet functional gear, and according to Gamber the packs will follow that blueprint. The packs, he says “are well-designed, feature-filled, ultralight packs that can stand up to the rigors of big days on the trail,” he says.

Another notable aspect of the packs line is the company’s attention to sustainability. Each of the six packs will be made from 100 percent recycled nylon, and the 45- and 63-liter models will come with a “Trash Can,” a 7-liter fabric bag designed for holding refuse picked up while you hike.

While samples of the packs aren’t yet available, we’re excited to try out a new product line from a brand that’s won multiple Editors’ Choice awards. Check back for more.
