What's Your Favorite Trail Pant?
I am having a very hard time finding the right pair of trail pants. I've searched online and found what seems to be a thousand pairs and none are the right pair. Do you have a favorite?

Answer:
At the risk of scooping myself (because I just wrote these up for the upcoming June issue so check out the full review when it hits the stands), my new favorite trail pants are the First Ascent Mountain Guide Lite Pants .
They’re pricey at $179, but here’s why I love them: They fit great with a trim cut that’s not baggy or billowy and the Schoeller 3XDry is super-stretchy, breathable, and durable. I also like that the pockets are smooth and low key—no big cargos that look so slumpy.
And, they look great even after a week of straight mountain wear– I wore these for almost an entire week of testing in Switzerland this past October.
When worn alone, the weight is ideal for temps from about 40°F to about 70°F.
If the price tag is too much for you to swallow, check out Outdoor Research’s Venture Pants for $70 They’re made of a lighter weight fabric (Supplex) that’s better for hotter weather. —Kristin
