What's the Perfect Camp Pillow?

I've got a great sleeping bag but I can't sleep without a pillow. Do you have a recommendation for a lightweight pillow or some kind of trick for making one with my gear?

Answer:

I’m the same way–The most plush pad and bag in the world isn’t worth squat if I don’t have some sort of pillow.

I have two suggestions:

The Therm-a-Rest Trekker Pillowcase has been one of my all-time favorite pieces of gear for almost two decades. It’s just a polyester microfiber pillowcase that you stuff with clothes. It’s only two ounces and $11 , and if you stuff it well—with a down vest rather than a couple pairs of socks—it’s mighty comfy. Which is why it’s been omnipresent in my pack for nearly two decades…until I discovered my next suggestion.

The 700-fill down-stuffed Feathered Friends Geoduck. It’s more expensive ($35), a bit heavier (6 oz.), but it’s the difference between drinking a pint of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and a can of Bud. —Kristin
