Question:
What are the best quick-dry pants to use in cooler temperatures? I will be in Alaska in late August and will be out in the backcountry for 11 days. I wanted to find a good multi-purpose pant that will keep heat in and is also quick to dry.

Answer:
Hey Zach,
What you need is a good, midweight softshell pant, and there are many options. Here are three of my faves–they all dry pretty quick, fit great and have nice stretch for easy movement. The Patagonia’s are the lightest weight of the bunch, but all of these are good for average three-season hiking (30 to 60°F):
-Arc’teryx Gamma LT ($169, arcteryx.com)
-First Ascent Mountain Guide Lite (currently on sale for $159 at eddiebauer.com)
-Patagonia Rock Guide ($79, patagonia.com)
