Shorten Hip Belt Straps

I'm pretty skinny and when I tighten my hipbelt I end up with lots of extra strap flapping around. Can I just cut this extra stuff off?

Question:

I’m pretty skinny and when I tighten the hipbelt and other straps on my pack I end up with lots of extra strap hanging and flapping around. Can I just cut this extra stuff off?

Answer:

Yes, chop it off, then singe the webbing with a lighter to prevent fraying. I suggest leaving about six inches of extra length on each strap though. You want to make sure you have a little wiggle room in case you gain a few pounds, want to wear bulky cold-weather gear underneath, or pass your pack on to a friend when you decide to upgrade.
