Can rechargeable batteries be used in LED and non-LED headlamps and flashlights?

Answer:
Easy answer: Yes! Rechargeable batts are interchangeable with alkalines, regardless of the bulb type. There are drawbacks to rechargeables, though. They typically don’t hold a charge as long as alkalines do, so if your trip is longer than a few days, you’ll want to bring some portable power or solar recharging solutions (like the Brunton Restore, $124, ).
My favorite rechargables are USBCells, which plug directly into any USB port (no fussy, bulky charging docks to worry about). Check out our USBCells review.
