Great Beach-Camping Tents

I do a bit of camping on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I am looking for a 3-person tent that can withstand the howls and gusts of the winds without collapsing or flapping so loud it keeps me awake. No $3,000 tents please.

Answer:

Though there are many great tents that can stand up to a stiff breeze, check out the package “The Perfect System: East” we put together in the March 08 Gear Guide issue. It’s a full ensemble of gear—from clothing to sleeping bag to tent–that’s best suited for your neck of the woods. (We’ve also got Perfect Systems for the Northwest , the Rockies, and the Southwest). The tent we recommend is the 2-person MSR Hubba Hubba ($300). The 3-person version is called the Mutha Hubba ($400). Both will beat back gusty winds, and still keep you cool in the mid summer humidity, thanks to plenty of mesh.
