The sturdy claw-like appendages give this stove a tactical advantage when ideal surfaces are hard to find or when high winds threaten less stable stoves. On a stormy multiday mission in the High Sierra, it cranked out hot water and meals reasonably fast (under 5 minute boil times for 1 liter of water).
At 10 oz., it’s not the lightest stove out there, but it’s more effective than most for melting big pots of snow, thanks to its stable, low-to-the-ground design and a remote fuel line that lets you invert the canister for better end-of-tank efficiency. $160; 10 oz.; snowpeak.com
