Our take Rain shells are great for fending off precip, but can become unforgivingly swampy as temps rise. So the best way to combat inclement weather during the summer? For those in the know, it might be this ultralight umbrella. Weighing under 7 ounces but with a sizable canopy, the Silver Shadow allows for unmitigated airflow while still keeping users dry (and, on scorching days, out of the sun). “I would have wet out my raingear immediately in 60°F temps on the North Carolina section of the Appalachian Trail, but this umbrella allowed me to hike in comfort,” one tester says. The weight savings are the result of an all-carbon shaft and ribs, and an EVA foam handle is cushy. The Silver Shadow collapses down to 25 inches.
