Our take This low-top shoe is light and breathable, but that doesn’t mean the OUTline can’t handle the rough stuff. “On a four-day backpacking trip through Canyon de Chelly it kept me steady in steep, sandy terrain and the toe bumper protected my feet while I hopped among boulders,” one tester says. Credit the Contagrip rubber outsole and its 5mm-deep lugs for the OUTline’s stability; our tester also reports that the thick EVA midsole felt comfortable as he hoofed a 33-pound pack.
The details Although the OUTline has a waterproof membrane, our tester says his feet never overheated on 80°F days thanks to the large mesh portions on the shoe’s synthetic upper.
Trail cred “The OUTline’s sole even held fast on slickrock scrambles in Canyon de Chelly, and I never felt off-balance,” our tester says.
