This handy piece of cookware makes pouring hot water a breeze.

Our take Not all backcountry kettles are created equal. The Pika’s unique spout—it has a snub-nosed shape with a pronounced lip and divot—is something we never knew we needed until we experienced its precise pours. “It eliminated dribbles during a five-day trip in Wyoming’s Wind River Range, and I never lost any water while targeting my oatmeal packets or drip coffee,” one tester says. A wide, anodized aluminum base results in faster boil times than a standard pot, and the 1-liter Pika can store a folding canister stove like a Pocket Rocket inside. Although it doesn’t collapse—it’s about the size of a small cantaloupe—its 5-ounce weight won’t break your back.

Trail cred “The lid locks securely, and along with the spout made sure I never burned myself while using the Pika,” our tester reports.
