Is it better to drive a long distance to a much higher elevation (like from the Northeast to the Rockies) to get used to the elevation gradually?

Answer:
Is it better to drive? Yes, it is, but just how much better is hard to say. You probably wouldn’t notice much benefit if you drive to somewhere below about 8,000 feet. You would get the most benefit if you take several days to make the drive and get out the car regularly for light exercise.
