Boots With Arch Support?
Is there any one brand of hiking boots that you recommend that has excellent arch support? Currently I use an insole in my hiking boot which helps but I still have issues.

Question:
I have high arches so bad that the top of my right foot hurts. Is there any one brand of hiking boots that you recommend that has excellent arch support? Currently I use an insole in my hiking boot which helps but I still have issues.

Answer:
Here’s the deal: Arch support comes from the insoles, not the boot itself. Your best bet is to find a boot you love—for its fit, weight, traction and support—and augment it with a super-supportive insole designed for high arches. Just about every boot I’ve ever tested comes with a really flimsy footbed that warrants replacing. And it’s not just high-arched people that can benefit from after-market insoles: They can enhance the comfort of any boot and give support to every shape of foot. Two of our favorites for high arches are Sole’s Softec Ultras and Superfeet Premium Green; both are designed to give extra support where high arches need it most.
But if your arches are really high, your best bet is to go to a podiatrist and get a custom made insert. You’ll pay a bit more, but it’s worth it. And they can easily be transferred from your boots to any other shoe you wear, giving you maximum bang for your buck.
