Wolf Kills Cow, Worrying NorCal Ranchers

The discovery of the Lassen Pack in Northern California last July set some local ranchers on edge as they worried about wolves preying on their cattle. And in mid-October, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife confirmed a Lassen PackĀ wolf had killed a cow in Lassen County. Wildlife officials argued that such incidents are rare, but the lack of a compensation system for wolf kills in the state raised concerns among ranchers in the area.
