West Clear Creek

West Clear Creek Wilderness, AZ

Hike up a narrow gorge cut steeply into the southern edge of the Colorado Plateau to a hidden world of slickrock waterslides and clear desert pools. The 8.8-mile out-and-back trail ranges from the craggy canyon walls to the treed oasis of the creek at the base of the rocks, with four creek crossings before its terminus at Bald Hill. The early parts of the trail are the best bet for those looking to take a dip, with natural waterslides that empty into the eponymous creek.

Meadow Run

Ohiopyle State Park, PA

You can go right from your car to these popular falls, where a channel swoops and dives through a broad sandstone shelf in one of the country’s most spectacular natural waterslides. The ride culminates in a deep pool perfect for swimming. After you getting your fill of waterslide thrills, head to the Meadow Run Trail for a 2.9 mile loop through more falls over the same stepped sandstone slabs.
