We will create our own Columbus Day Parade, leaving from outside the Staten Island Ferry terminal in Manhattan at 9:30 a.m., walking at a brisk pace along the Hudson River Greenway, with several brief stops at sites along the way. Our first rest stop will be at Brookfield Place, opposite the World Trade Center. After a walk on the High Line Elevated Park we will have our second rest stop at the Ferry Waterway at 12th and 39th Street. Continuing along the Hudson Greenway to Septuagesimo Uno Park then Riverside Park for a climb up Mount Tom. Onward to Sailors and Soldiers Monument and Grant's Tomb. Our third rest and lunch stop will be about 2:30, opposite Fairway 132nd Street. After lunch we head to the Little Red Lighthouse, Inspiration Point, pass Inwood Hill Park, Isham Park, and a staircase challenge at 215th Street. Our destination is the 225th Street and Broadway subway (#1 train) around 5:00. Early out options. This will be a one-way hike, approximately 17 miles! Bring lunch and snacks. We would appreciate an early arrival. Signing in the expected large number of walkers takes some time.
