Swift Rescue for Lost Hikers, Thanks to New Drone

Search & Rescue crews used the new airborne tool to find a pair of lost hikers in the Pike National Forest within two hours.

Drones have a mixed reputation when it comes to their presence in wilderness areas, but here's one point in their favor: They can help save lives and rescue hikers in distress. Last week, Douglas County SAR deployed a new drone and quickly found a pair of lost hikers and their dog on the Devil's Head Trail in Pike National Forest. Low-flying drones are increasingly being used as tools for wilderness rescue.
