Anchorage Trails

backcountry picnic spots - church

Take a stroll in Chugach State Park, where year-round trails are perfect for a leisurely afternoon hike and picnic.

The best hiking in Anchorage can be found in nearby Chugach State Park, which has easy access to trails including the 22 mile Crow Pass (~1 hour drive), and an unmissable 19 mile out-and-back to Flute Glacier (~20 minute drive). Anchorage day hikers can explore the Mount Gordon Lyon loop (~40 minute drive), a 5 mile hike that's as fun a hike in winter as it is the rest of the year. Almost every Alaska hiking trip starts out in Anchorage, so on your next trip up north don't miss the opportunity to get a taste of Chugach.
