A proposed gondola to connect Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows ski areas would require 37 lift towers and shave a 40-minute trip down to about 13 minutes. And it would turn the double resort into the largest ski area in California. But the lift will have to cross the Five Lakes Trail, which accesses the protected Granite Chief Wilderness Area—something that not all locals are happy about.
