Snow Brings Extra Hiking Hazards to PCT

Raging rivers, avalanches, and steep snow slopes challenge thru-hikers.

The Pacific Crest Trail is a tall order any year, but this summer it’s extra tough, reports the Los Angeles Daily News. Last winter’s heavy snows are lingering well into summer in the high country, causing high-running rivers, avalanche hazards, and steep, difficult-to-negotiate slopes.
