The first phase of improvements to the Salmon River Fish Hatchery in Altmar are complete, the New York Department of Environmental Conservation announced last week. The site raises steelhead, chinook salmon, coho salmon, and brown trout to stock Lake Ontario. Continuing renovations into 2018 will add live fish displays, interpretive materials, new signs, and improved visitor facilities.
