Tiger salamander

Biologists who monitor the salamander population in Lake County reported fairly good news this spring: The blue-spotted salamander is increasing, potentially due to ecosystem restoration work. The Illinois state salamander species, the tiger salamander, could be slightly declining in number. Both species play a role in mosquito control and are excellent indicators of environmental health.
