River otters in the Loop? It’s not as farfetched as it might sound, according to Chicago biologists interviewed by WBEZ. After Illinois successfully reintroduced river otters in the ’80s and ’90s, their populations have exploded. Now, the Urban Otter Project is studying whether or not the aquatic mammals are establishing permanent homes in the main stem of the Chicago River.
