Famous OR-7 Wolf is Grandfather to Lassen Pack

Biologists confirm that new northern California pack traces back to the first wolf spotted in the state since 1924.

California Department of Fish and Wildlife officials confirmed last week that three wolf pups discovered in the Lassen National Forest are descendants of the famous OR-7 gray wolf. OR-7, a wandering collared wolf, became the first wolf in western Oregon since the ’30s and the first wolf in California since 1924. He found a mate in 2014 and produced several litters of pups in southwestern Oregon; one of his sons fathered the Lassen pups this year.
