Olympic National Park Wants Goats Out

A new management plan proposes killing or relocating the park's population of mountain goats.

Rangers want the 600-strong-and-growing population of mountain goats out of Olympic National Park, officials announced this week. The animals, which are not native to the Olympic Mountains, damage fragile native plants and even pose a threat to hikers. Rangers are accepting public comment on a new management plan, which outlines several solutions: shooting the goats, relocating them to the North Cascades, or a combination of the two.
