Obama Pitches Jackson Park Presidential Center Amid Concerns

Some neighborhood groups oppose construction plans for the South Side complex.

Last week, former President Barack Obama made a speech in Chicago defending plans to build his presidential center in the South Side’s Jackson Park. He argued that the proposed library, youth training center, and museum would boost economic activity rather than increase gentrification. Still, Preservation Chicago has listed Jackson Park as one of its most endangered public spaces¬†for 2018, citing concerns that the Obama center and a new golf course will harm historic park resources.
