Local surfers joined with the Surfrider Foundation to sue U.S. Steel last month after an October chromium spill at its Portage, Indiana facility polluted Lake Michigan waters. The incident followed a hexavalent chromium spill in April 2017. Surfers have reported skin rashes and urinary tract infections they think are linked to the polluted waters.
