Hike, Swim & Trail Work at Minnewaska State Park

Publish date:

Group: The Hiking and Nature Meetup

When: Saturday, June 24, 9 am to 7:30 pm

Where: Minnewaska State Park, Kerhonkson, NY

Cost: Free

Details: Distance: 8 - 10 miles

Terrain: Mostly easy.

Pace: Moderate/Social

Special Opportunity 1: Swim at gorgeous Lake Awosting. (First day it's open this season.) Maybe swim at Lake Minnewaska too.

Special Opportunity 2: Give back to the Park and the hiking community by spending a couple of hours clipping a gorgeous section of the Upper Rainbow Falls Trail. Tools will be supplied, but if you have garden clippers or hedge shears, please bring.

I'm the volunteer trail maintainer for an approx 1 mile of beautiful trail in this Park. I need some help getting it clipped back...not sure how bad it is just now since I have not seen it since last Fall. We will spend approx. two hours clipping before resuming our hike. (Less if the trail is in better shape than I thought.) After our work, we'll hike over to the "beach" at Lake Awosting for a long swim break.

Note: This will be a long day. If you have Saturday Evening plans, it won't work!

Afterwards, we'll probably grab a bite in New Paltz.
