Join United by Blue on our Cleanup Road Trip to SoCal, where we’ve partnered with 4 local REI stores to the clean the waterways around Los Angeles!
REI Manhattan Beach and Surfrider Foundation: South Bay will join us for a cleanup of Dockweiler State Beach. Stretching across the Pacific shoreline for over 3 miles, Dockweiler State Beach is a popular playground for LA residents and visitors of all ages. Bicyclists, rollerbladers, and joggers share the boardwalk, while hang gliders can often be found gliding over the water, and RV campers circle around in the sand for a beach campfire. With so much activity, trash easily winds up along the coast line and into the ocean, endangering the marine life and shore birds, in particular, the federally protected, Western Snowy Plover, who make their nests on the beach. Please join us for the Dockweiler State Beach cleanup to help restore the natural beauty and health of the sand and ocean!
United by Blue will provide water, snacks and cleanup supplies to all participants. Volunteers will each receive an exclusive “Cleanup Crew” trucker hat, and also have the chance to win prizes during two cleanup games!
Please wear sturdy shoes and clothes that you don't mind getting dirty or wet.
Pack a cozy sweatshirt and your headlamp, and join us after the cleanup for sunset bonfire at the beach! We'll provide hotdogs, drinks and pint cups for all volunteers. To help reduce waste, BYO reusable cutlery and plates. Any extra firewood is welcome!
