Devil's Punchbowl Natural Area: Devils Chair

Climb to a rocky highpoint in the San Gabriel Mountains on this 6.7-mile dayhike in Devil's Punchbowl Natural Area.

This seven-mile out-and-back traces a 300-foot-deep canyon flanked by massive sandstone slabs. Turn left at mile 3.3 and scale a narrow rock ridge to Devil’s Chair, a 100-foot-high perch overlooking monolithic rock gardens and the surrounding San Gabriel Mountains.

TO TRAILHEAD: From Los Angeles, take US 101 N to CA 170 N to I-5 N to CA 14 N to exit 30 to Sierra Hwy./Pearblossom Hwy. In 2.7 miles, right at Barrel Springs Rd. In 3.5 miles, right at Cheseboro Rd. In 0.6 mile, left at Mt. Emma Rd. In 3.5 miles, right at Fort Tejon Rd. In 4.5 miles, straight onto 131st St. E. In 0.3 mile, right on 131st St. E Rd. In 2.3 miles, left at Tumbleweed Rd./Devils Punchbowl Rd. Go 3.1 miles to parking area.
