Coyote Kills Dog in Deerfield

Biologists warn pet owners to be extra-careful in May and June, when coyotes get territorial.
Publish date:

A coyote killed a pet chihuahua in Deerfield earlier this month, wildlife biologists say. While coyotes--common in the forest preserves of Lake County--typically prey on smaller mammals, the wild canines tend to act territorial in May and June. Experts advise pet owners to keep all food indoors and to throw rocks or sticks at any coyotes that stray into developed areas.
