SATURDAY, JUNE 16

2. Class: Backpacking Basics
When: 12-1:30 pm
Where: REI Boston, Boston, MA
Cost: Free (registration required)
Details: REI will take the mystery out of Backpacking with an overview of planning, preparation and gear. Learn how to choose a pack, select proper clothing and footwear. Plus, we'll give you important notes on trail etiquette and Leave No Trace principles. Let REI help you understand what you need to reach your destination.

3. Mt. Carragain Run
When: Register for details
Where: Mt. Carragain, NH
Cost: Free (registration required)
Details: Mount Carrigain is deservedly renowned for the fantastic views from its summit tower in the heart of the Pemi. We'll run up, spend a few minutes at the summit, and run on down before the afternoon is old. We'll cover about 10.6 miles and climb 3450 feet out-and-back. Our pace will be about 12-15 minutes/mile on easier terrain, slowing to a 20-minute power-hike on steep uphills or very technical sections. The priority is enjoying scenery and company rather than a hard workout. Some experience with trail running at or near this distance is required. Grades are mostly gentle but there is some gnarly footing. This trip will start early morning and finish in about 3 ½ - 4 hours.
