A professional fossil hunter discovered a piece of an extinct bison's pelvis with human tool marks on it while exploring Lunada Canyon in Rancho Palos Verdes in 2012. Sophisticated testing recently revealed the bone dates back 13,500 years--making it the earliest evidence of humans in California by about 500 years.
