Black bears are on the move from the Sierra.

A new conservation study reports that more than 500 black bears have settled down in eastern Nevada's Great Basin area, a part of their historical range that hasn't supported bears for about 80 years. The bears, which have migrated east from the Sierra, represent a rare example of large mammals reclaiming lost habitat and provide evidence for the importance of preserving safe wildlife corridors of undeveloped land.
