In a world full of GPS devices and smartphones, the ability to navigate with a map and compass is becoming a lost art. However, for those traveling in the backcountry, it can be an important skill to have. Your hike will take you over a moderate six miles of beautiful Hudson Valley trail as you learn the essentials of wilderness navigation. You'll be taught the basics of orienteering: map reading, compass use, peak identification, shooting bearings, and triangulating a position. Throughout the day, you'll be able to test out your skills, ask questions, and work as a team. You'll come away from the day with the knowledge to take on your next backcountry challenge with confidence.
