When will I receive my first issue?

Please allow 6–8 weeks for delivery of your first issue.

Where is my missing or late issue?

If you didn’t receive BACKPACKER this month, it may be due to our yearly subscription consisting of nine issues. Our January/February, July/August, and November/December issues combine 2 months; therefore you will not receive an issue every month. If you feel that your issue is late or you have membership questions, please contact us.

How do I check my subscription?

Magazine subscriptions are included with your Backpacker or Outside+ membership. If you want to check the status of your membership, renew it or change your address, you can log in to your account by clicking the icon in the upper right corner of your screen.

Where is my free gift?

The gifts offered with your subscription are sent separate from the magazine by Standard Class mail. Please allow 4–6 weeks for delivery within the U.S. or Canada. Note: the post office does not forward standard class mail, so the address on your order must be correct. If you feel that your free gift is missing or if you have questions please contact us.

Will I get my money back if I cancel my subscription?

We do not offer refunds for Outside+ or Backpacker memberships. If you’d like to cancel your membership renewal, you may do so by signing into your membership portal, navigating to My Profile > My Membership > Cancel Subscription.

Pre-paid memberships are renewed annually. If you choose to cancel your membership, you’ll stay a member until your renewal date, but your account will not automatically renew for another year.

How do I cancel my subscription?

  1. Click the Icon in the upper right corner
  2. Select MY PROFILE
  3. Navigate to MY MEMBERSHIP
  4. Click Cancel Subscription

How can I find information from a past issue?

To find articles that appeared in the magazine within the past few years, use our custom search tool by typing words from the title or article in the search window. Not all articles printed in BACKPACKER are online.

Can I renew online?

Pre-paid memberships are renewed annually. If you would like to upgrade your Backpacker Pass to an Outside+ membership, just visit My Profile > My Membership to upgrade.  You will then have one full year of Outside+ starting the day you upgrade.
