1 slightly unripe banana
1 Tbsp walnuts
2 Tbsp brown sugar
pinch of salt
dash cinnamon
1 Tbsp butter
2 Tbsp whiskey
1⁄4 cup mini marshmallows
1 18-by-8-inch piece of heavy-duty aluminum foil
At Home
Blend walnuts, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a zip-top bag. Wrap banana in something soft, like a camp towel, but it’s OK if it gets a little banged up (you’ll be cooking it).
In Camp
Prepare a bed of coals. Pour whiskey into walnut-sugar bag and blend well. Split banana lengthwise, going as far as the skin on the far side, and open like a hot-dog bun. Stuff with walnut-sugar mixture, then top with butter and marshmallows. Wrap in foil, folding the top and sides twice to seal the packet. Nestle among coals so they reach about an inch up the sides. Cook for 15 to 20 minutes, until the package feels squishy. Using two sticks, pull boats out of the coals and dust them off before opening.
