Think happy.Studies have shown that thinking about food you love can help alleviate pain. One more reason to dream about that post-hike shake.

Distract yourself. It’s all too easy to put your head down and dwell on how much your heel hurts with every step. Talk to friends. Listen to music.

Don’t give up on minimizing pain. Keep feet dry so blisters don’t worsen. Use a donut of foam to prevent friction. Drain large blisters to relieve pressure.
