Best Large Capacity Pack
TETON Sports Explorer 4000 Internal Frame Backpack
Plenty of Cargo Capacity for Extended Adventures. The Explorer 4000 boasts a 65-liter capacity—big enough for a week’s worth of gear—and a wide range of adjustability to fit users of all shapes and sizes.
What We Liked.
We searched far and wide for a large capacity pack that would accommodate clothes, gear, sleeping bag, and camp supplies for up to a week in the bush, yet still come in under 100 bucks. We thought our goose was cooked…until we found the TETON Sports Explorer 4000. It has all the room we were looking for, plus extras like pass-through side pockets for storing tent poles, side zippered pockets, a zippered top pocket, and a hydration bladder compartment. But what really got our blood pumping was the adjustability: 19-23 inches of torso adjustment, plus adjustable waist, chest, and shoulder straps. This pack can easily adjust to users from 5’1” to 6’4”, which we love. Plus, it’s nicely padded and features a well-designed airflow system for comfortable carry. Buy this pack on Amazon today!
Best Mid-Size Pack
TETON Sports Scout 3400 Internal Frame Backpack
Dependable Bag for Weekend Trips. This medium-sized pack offers the perfect mix of capacity, adjustability, and comfort.
What We Liked.
Like most consumers, when we’re shopping for outdoor gear, we check the customer reviews. Well, we do the same when researching gear. What are people saying about it? How’s it working in the field? We were amazed to find more than 1,500 5-star reviews on a leading e-commerce site for the Scout 3400 Internal Frame Backpack. After we took a closer look at the bag, we understood why. The 3,400 cubic inch capacity is ideal for weekend hikes and quick trips. It features a sleeping bag compartment that’ll fit most compressible bags, handy exterior storage options and gear loops, plus the same torso, waist, chest, and shoulder adjustability as the larger Explorer 4000. It’s solidly built, comfortable to carry, and distributes weight nicely. We’re not a huge fan of the bungee straps (we prefer MOLLE attachment points), but for the functionality and price, we can live with that. Buy Now On Amazon.
AmazonBasics Internal Frame Hiking Backpack with Rainfly
Bargain Entry-level Pack. This spacious pack hauls it all at a price anyone can afford.
What We Liked.
This. Is. Crazy. A large capacity, 65L pack for under 60 bucks? It can’t actually be good quality, right? Not so fast. While this AmazonBasics Backpack might leave seasoned backcountry travelers wanting more, it’s more than adequate for the beginner or entry-level hiker who’s not looking to drop a wad of cash. It features a 60L main compartment and an extension collar that provides another 5L of cargo capacity. Multiple exterior compartments are great for keeping trail essentials handy without digging into your main pack. While the nylon shell is not as rugged as other higher priced packs, it is durable and has a water-repellent coating and integrated rainfly. Torso range is adjustable, as are the waist belt and shoulder straps. All told, we found this to be a solid entry-level option with impressive value for the price. Buy on Amazon Today.
