By far one of the most controversial issues surrounding the outdoor community has been the Interior Department’s proposal to revise gun laws in national parks. Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne promised that the rules would be available for public comment, and now they are. To voice your opinion directly to Kempthorne (well, maybe his assistant) and the DOI, visit here.
Kempthorne sums up the proposal like so:
“The safety and protection of park and refuge visitors remains a top priority for the Department of the Interior,” said Secretary Kempthorne. “The proposed regulations will incorporate current state laws authorizing the possession of concealed firearms, while continuing to maintain important provisions to ensure visitor safety and resource protection.”
