OK, so it's not exactly cutting trenches or dragging logs up on the John Muir Trail, but President Obama did his part to get outside on Earth Day by joining the Student Conservation Association for a tree-planting project at Washington, D.C.’s Kenilworth Aquatic Garden. He even put on a SCA vest like he meant it.
It's good to see Obama join in on his own initiatives: Moments before breaking out the shovel, Obama signed into law the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, which will promote the participation of young Americans in domestic projects like those sponsored by the SCA or Americorps.
Not one to be left out of the fun, First Lady Michelle Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and his wife Jill, and even former President Bill Clinton joined in. Here's the footage:
Look at Bill go...that guy never misses a chance to get his hands dirty.
