Glacier National Park, certainly a contender for coolest national park (har-har), celebrates a milestone this Friday. Glacier was founded exactly 100 years ago on May 11, and to commemorate the event, the park will host special centennial events, including a re-dedication of park headquarters, special tours, a film festival, and art shows. Some events even provide refreshments.
To help you navigate this year's celebrations, Glacier's established a specific centennial website, complete with an intro video from a nervous-sounding ranger. They've also compiled this highlight reel to entice you to come celebrate—which, given the fact that this is freakin' Glacier, is pretty effective. Smooth jazz and pretty pictures ahead:
So now that you're practically salivating to visit this summer, head over to BACKPACKER's Glacier National Park page to help plan your personal celebration.
(How are we celebrating? Someone mentioned a kegger in the woods off the Grinnell Glacier trail, but you didn't hear that from us.)
