Update 6/23/15: The Citizen Times reported earlier today that the DNA of a bear captured and euthanized in the area on June 8 does not match the DNA of the attacking bear. However, another bear that was shot but not killed around the same time could possibly be a match.

A black bear attacked a 16-year-old boy camping in Great Smoky Mountains National Park on Saturday night.
ABC News reports that the boy and his father were both asleep in hammocks about ten feet apart when the attack occurred. Park officials said the duo had properly stored all of their gear.
The boy's father successfully drove the bear away and drove his son to the hospital. Despite suffering lacerations to the head, the 16-year-old is expected to make a full recovery.
