Should ibuprofen be thrown away after the expiration date, or is it really still OK to use?

Your question does not have a simple answer. A lot depends on how your pills have been stored. Kept airtight in a dark, dry place, the ibuprofen will remain effective for a lot longer than the expiration date. Stored in direct sunlight or exposed to moisture, they probably won't last past the expiration date. Since you always want the drug to work the best it can, the safest bet is to replace the pills once the container says the drug has expired. —Buck
